The Benefits of An In Home Newborn Session

As a San Diego newborn photographer, I absolutely love capturing new babies in the comfort of their own home. Home is where families are most comfortable and feel the most at ease. When mom and dad are at ease, so is baby and older siblings. I want your newborn session to feel like a cozy Saturday morning and the best way for it to feel like that, is to be curled up on your bed, couch, or nursery. Today I’m sharing some benefits of having an in home newborn session.

1. You Don’t Have To Pack Up Your Family

As a mom of 4, I know how much work it is getting a newborn packed up for an outing. By the time you have fed and changed baby, you have to start the process all over again! Staying home makes your newborn session simpler. All you have to do is get everyone dressed–shoes optional-and be ready to love on your people! Since I’m a lifestyle newborn photographer, I don’t use props or do too many heavy posing, so there’s very little prep work before I come. All I need is a good window and a snuggly family and we’ll create beautiful images together.

2. Baby And Siblings Stay In The Comfort Of Your Home

There’s a certain comfort that comes from being home. Undoubtedly children know their surroundings even at a young age. It’s familiar. For young kids, all of their toys are there and they have easy access to what they might need. I have found newborns to be calmer when they are in their parents arms in the comfort of their home. In addition to this, older siblings can run around and play while I take photos of baby alone or parents with baby. In a stage that can feel overwhelming and chaotic, in home newborn sessions are meant to feel relaxed and simple.

The Third Benefit of An In Home Newborn Session
Is It’s Easy To Go At Baby’s Pace

My newborn sessions are laid back and unhurried. I always leave ample time during these sessions in case baby needs to eat, have a diaper change, be swaddled, or simply held. Staying at home allows mama to nurse baby in the rocking chair or change a diaper on the changing table. We don’t have to worry about it being too hot or too cold like we would if we were outside. There’s no rush to leave because we’ve already arrived where we want to be.
